![]() Swivel CleatThe impetus for this design was to relieve the single handed sailer of holding the mainsheet. The pulley is flexible enough to adapt for the changing angle of the mainsheet, the cleat allows rapid holding and unholding of the rope. A large ball race bearing in the machined housing allows for nearly frictionless swivel under load. | ![]() Swivel Pre AssemblyComponents of the swivel before assembly in stainless, aluminum. At center is the ball race housing, machined by rotary table. | ![]() Early SketchConcept sketch including considerations of safety: cleating the mainsheet is a somewhat risky move; so uncleating had to be even easier. Here the cam cleat is mounted up-side down so the way in which I would naturally pull when in trouble also uncleats it, depowering the mainsail. |
